Tips for Website Forum Use
Written by Forum_Mod
The location of the Forum page on the website has changed. It is now underneath the "Member" menu on the far right of the topmost menu bar. It will be hidden unless you first login. Reply back to this email if you need help in setting up a website user account.

In using the forums it is helpful to switch between the "Forum View" which shows the structure, and "Topic View" which lists the most recent posts to a topic.  Here's how...

The Forum menu bar looks like (w/out the separators):

Index
Forum/Topic View Users Messages Rules Search

When first entering the forum page, the view is of the forum and sub-forum structure, and the second position menu bar button will read "Topic View".  Click on this and all the topics will be listed, most recent post first.  This will allow you to see the most recent posts and who has last posted to the topic.    This topic view is the most convenient way of getting a quick update on all the forums.

In order to post an article (which would be the content on a page):

  2. in left column, under "Member Menu", click "Submit an Article"
  3. enter text
    1. Title will be the header of your article
    2. Please keep the text format relatively simple
    3. Underneath the text box, you can:
      1. add a "Read More" button that will hide the text after it until the "Read More" link is clicked (place your cursor in the article where you would like it to appear and then click this "Read More" to add; example: UU Elevator Speeches at bottom of http://www.uufg.org/worship/first-time-visitors/unitarian-universalism.html

What are UUFG Neighborhoods? (October 2011 Millhopper Article)

What are UUFG Neighborhoods?
Neighborhoods are clusters of UUFG members and visitors who live close to one another.

What is the purpose of Neighborhoods?
The concept of Neighborhoods was the brainchild of Rev. Garmon who was thinking about how we could be a better connected beloved community. With Neighborhoods we aim to foster member-to-member and member-to-visitor relationships. They are all about making connections. It can be very convenient to be in touch with UUFG members who live close by, for a variety of reasons. Ride sharing is a good one. Borrowing stuff. Walking or running together. Dropping in to visit (after calling, of course).

Who facilitates these Neighborhood contacts?
Each Neighborhood has a coordinator who serves as a “point person” for the group. The coordinator works closely with Rev. Garmon and the Membership Committee.

What exactly does the coordinator do?
It varies from Neighborhood to Neighborhood, depending in large part on the interest level of the Neighborhood denizens. Essentially, the coordinator keeps in touch with all Neighborhood members. If the Neighborhood likes to get together, the coordinator is involved possibly as organizer, but not necessarily. Another Neighborhood member may organize a Neighborhood event, like a potluck, a night out at a restaurant, a matinee at the Hipp, an adventure on Paynes Prairie. Other descriptive terms for the coordinator: Contact person, go-to person, person in the know.. And some are pastoral associates, about which more will be said in later communiqués.

Do I need to join?
You belong to a Neighborhood by the fact you are a UUFG member or a visitor who has expressed interest. If you are a visitor interested in becoming part of a UUFG Neighborhood, please contact Membership Committee chair, Jack Kulas, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . For members, details about your neighborhood, like who’s in it, can be found on the website under the member page and on maps in the Phillips Social Hall.

Who can I contact with additional questions?
Contact your coordinator, or a member of the Membership Committee, or Meredith. And of course our Office Admin Cam Peirce usually can direct you to someone for an answer. For member information on who is in which Neighborhoods, login to the site and the personal info becomes available.
