Wearing Our Nametags

We welcome all those who are interested in our church, our programs, and our faith. As you get to know us and we get to know you, we’ve found it helpful to use descriptive categories for the stages of your relationship with the church. These designations are symbolized by the nametags worn typically at Sunday services to help welcome newer people into the community and integrate them into the congregation. All church programs and activities are open to anyone.

Newcomer (white adhesive nametag): A person who is attracted to the Unitarian Universalist religion; one who is visiting the church for the first time to attend Sunday services.

Friend (green nametag): A person whose interest is growing, and who is taking the time to explore his or her relationship with this church community in some depth before designating UUFG as “religious home.” Friends are encouraged to participate in all church activities and may be asked to volunteer their time for one church event or another. We encourage Friends to contribute financially. We believe that involvement, attendance and support will lead to an understanding of our values and principles, and a sense of belonging.

Member (white magnetic nametag): A person who fully identifies himself/herself as a Unitarian Universalist, who accepts and supports the basic philosophy, purposes, and work of this Fellowship, and who has signed the Membership Book. A Member has the privilege of voting at officially-called congregational meetings, and may serve on the Governing Board, Program Council, or Leadership Development Committee. Church facilities are available free of charge to Members for weddings, memorial services, and other ceremonies of passage. Members are expected to make an annual financial pledge to the Fellowship.

Ribbons

We have introduced ribbons to our nametags, to help you identify certain groups.

Green Visitor Ribbon: These ribbons are added to Newcomer nametags to point out people who are just getting to know our community, and would like to be approached and introduced to you.  Please take time to answer their questions, show them around, and encourage them to sign up for our weekly e-Newsletter, Chalice Connections.

Green New Member Ribbon: These ribbons are added to Member nametags to point out people who have just joined our congregation and are looking to get to know everyone and about our congregation.  Please take time to get to know them and welcome them to our congregational life.

Yellow Pastoral Associates Ribbon: These ribbons are added to Member nametags to identify the volunteer members of our Pastoral Associates Team.  Please seek them out, get to know them, and find out what kinds of pastoral care options are available to you.

Blue Governing Board Ribbon: These ribbons are added to Member nametags to identify the elected members of our Governing Board.  Please seek them out, get to know them, and visit with them during their 3rd Wednesday night Board meetings as well.

Navy Blue Program Council Ribbon: These ribbons are added to Member nametags to identify the elected members of our Program Council.  Please seek them out, get to know them, and ask about the programs of the Fellowship and how to get involved.  Their meetings are open to the public and are held on 2nd Wednesday nights.
