It Can’t Happen Here – Actors Warehouse Dramatic Reading at UUFG – Oct 7, 14 & 21

Three Mondays: in UUFG’s Sanctuary: October 7, 14 and 21 — 7;00 pm

Our Social Justice Council is sponsoring a reading by the Actors Warehouse of It Can’t Happen Here. The reading is based on a 1935 play by Sinclair Lewis and is described by Actor’s Warehouse as “a cautionary dark satire about the fragility of democracy and how fascism can take hold even in the land of liberty. It Can’t Happen Here follows the ascent of a demagogue who becomes president of the United States by promising to return the country to greatness”

The play was initially produced as part of the WPA Federal Theater Project’s “Living Newspaper” series and was performed simultaneously in eighteen cities. A new adaptation was written by Tony Ciconne and
Bennett Cohen and was performed at the Berkeley Repertory Theater Company in 2016. A staged reading was performed via Zoom in 2020 naming more than 100 theaters across the country as “broadcast partners” for the production.

Our readings will be held in the UUFG Sanctuary at 7:00 pm on three successive Mondays: October 8, 14, and 21. We hope you will save one of those dates to attend.
